Mayfly Sims

Decided, on a lark, to try out Cami's Speed Legacy.

Really only a "legacy" in that you're supposed to try to make it 10 generations and begin with a starter-level sim.  Rather than forcing poverty on the founder and having a long list of rules (that tend to get dropped anyway), the caveat is: Short lifespan.  20 days.

This is a huge change of pace.  I traditionally play on Long or Epic, with regular servings of Ambrosia.  I love to linger and dawdle.  I take the time to complete skill challenges, maintain long lists of friends, and actually raise my sims' children.

But my simself - the required founder for this sort of legacy, she doesn't have time to fool around.  She has 11 days to find a mate and breed before she turns Elder.  Maybe, possibly, she can work on that Lifetime Wish of hers at the same time, but I'm pretty sure actually completing it isn't in the picture.

She also has the Shy trait, and would really rather crawl under a rock and hide than spend an entire day socializing with strangers.  She is not a happy girl.

Too bad.

Day 1 was spent finding potential mates.

First, there's a goth boy who decided to get to know Sim-VQ by telling her an awesome ghost story.  Actually a pretty good way to impress, given my usual tastes in entertainment.

Then, a handsome young Doctor that Sim-VQ got all shy and blushy around every time I told her to talk to him.  He is both Friendly and Flirty - the social polar opposite of Shy little Vex.  Maybe this is a good thing.

And finally... a fellow nerdy loner who is compatible in all those ways that make him destined for the Friend Zone.  Sorry dude.  Peace.

Oh, and Twallan.  But he's off limits.  He's a multimillionaire with oodles of skills.  It'd feel too much like cheating.

As I was mulling over which one to go for and trying to get something done with my short life (besides a boy, of course), someone decided to show up at my doorstep.

It was... Goth Boy!  Come by for a second helping of conversation and maybe a little flirting?

Nope.  Goodness, didn't he turn out to be a grouchy pants!

I don't have time for shenanigans.  Life's too short to waste it on men who can't laugh at jokes.

But that's okay.

Because the very next day, Swoony Doctor shows up at my doorstep.  Apparently with lifespans set to Short, sims are a lot more likely to visit each other.

He is not a grouchypants, but in fact quite charming.

So, you know how these things usually go...

Boyfriend?  Close enough.

A little something-something before work?

Maybe a little too much fun.

Heh.  His outfit matches his place of employment.

Gawds.  4 days into playing and already knocked up.

And that's where I'm at now.

Am I gonna do 10 generations of this?

Dunno.  This playing style of "hurry up and breed" leaves little time to explore the nuances of your sims' individual traits and goals.  You've got exactly enough time to make the next generation, which I guess if you're mostly playing the game to make babies, is all you really need anyway.

But one thing that's always lacking from my games is the generational aspect.  My sims never die of old age, and I've never seen what any given town looks like more than 2 generations in.  So if the world I set up for this manages to make it more than 3 generations before imploding, that'll be a part of the game I've never seen before.

It's worth a shot, for variety's sake.

Better Living Through Reckless Experimentation

Working on getting everything put together in a pleasing arrangement before I start posting for real.

In the meantime, have a screenshot.

Appropriate, maybe?

What is This Thing That I Did?

So this morning I woke up, had a cup of coffee, stared at the internets until words started making sense, and said to myself, "You haven't had a blog of any sort since Livejournal was still the bee's knees.  Get with it, already."

This one will be about Sims and the things I do with them.

It's a start.
